Make A Difference

in the lives of dogs and cats in the Andes of Peru

Our Mission

Assisting dogs and cats facing adversity in remote regions of the Peruvian Andes, where these animals are not regarded as pets and are treated as expendable. The prevalent method of population control involves the use of poison. Unaltered dogs are left without proper medical care, and injured dogs are often not receiving the treatment they need. Additionally, numerous dogs roam the streets, forced to survive on their own.

What we do

Rescue

Pichuberry relies on local communities to alert them about animals requiring assistance, including those that are lost, injured, or part of an abandoned litter. Pichuberry takes charge of organizing the rescue efforts, while volunteers step in to retrieve the animals. Once in their care, the animals are taken to a veterinarian for essential treatment and care. They are then placed in foster homes until they fully recover before being made available for adoption.

Shelter

In our relentless effort to address the challenge of finding foster homes for stray dogs, we have devised a solution to shelter these vulnerable animals from the relentless rain that characterizes Peru. It is a well-known fact that cold and wet conditions make dogs more susceptible to illnesses such as flu, distemper, and other infections.

Through our initiative, we provide sturdy and weather-resistant dog houses, ensuring that these animals remain safe, dry, and protected. This not only offers them a stable home but also facilitates our volunteers in efficiently providing nourishment and monitoring the ever-growing stray dog population. Consequently, our housing initiative not only acts as a safe haven and a more permanent living arrangement for street dogs but also serves as a catalyst for stimulating the local economy.

Neuter

To combat the issue of neglect and violence towards animals, it is crucial to prioritize spaying and neutering efforts. Unfortunately, many locals lack awareness about the benefits and procedures of these practices. Pichuberry addresses this by organizing and sponsoring neutering campaigns within local villages. Pet owners are provided with a heavily subsidized cost for neutering their cats and dogs, and for those who cannot afford it, the service is offered free of charge. This initiative aims to promote responsible pet ownership and contribute to reducing the population of stray animals in a humane manner.

Foster

Pichuberry maintains a dedicated network of volunteers who generously foster dogs following their rescue, whether it's for the purpose of finding them a permanent home or assisting in their recovery from surgeries. Understanding the importance of this transitional period, Pichuberry provides support to these volunteers by offering assistance with food and various supplies necessary for the well-being of the fostered dogs. This collaborative effort ensures that rescued dogs receive the care and resources they need during this crucial phase of their journey towards adoption or recuperation.

Adoption

Pichuberry is dedicated to educating the community about responsible pet ownership and strives to make a positive impact through various initiatives. As part of our efforts, we provide free vaccines, deworming, and spay-neuter services to assist with the adoption process.

Our primary goal is to rescue vulnerable animals and find them loving forever homes where they will receive the care and protection they deserve from responsible owners. To achieve this, Pichuberry ensures that all rescued dogs are made available for adoption.

Once the adoption process is successfully completed, our dedicated volunteers continue their commitment by conducting regular follow-up calls. These calls allow us to assess the pet's well-being in its new home and ensure that it is adjusting comfortably to its new environment.
